About The Play
This play was born in my San Diego apartment.  I don’t know—I guess the walls and ceilings and floors were really thin.  But I could hear things that—you shouldn’t hear.  I felt like I was in a box.  And the walls were closing in.  And somehow that feeling was almost comforting.  Sound a little like a shut-in?  I’m not one.  But I understand people who are.  And just like Betsy, I do have a very sensitive nasal unit.  Can’t stand strange odors.  And she’s pretty sure it’s her boyfriend who stinks.  Enter Clyde—who is so busy trying to Make His Mark, he doesn’t realize that his girlfriend is suffering from gangrene and agoraphobia.  Deep down, it’s a simple love story.  But it’s caught in a wild fun house of anxiety, aesthetics, crude neighbors, and the apocalypse.

BETSY:  OK

Final Field Note

I’m in a burning building

Ready

Waiting

I’m in a burning building

On a blazing planet

Ready

Waiting

To feel the burn of the Big Bang in my internal organs

To feel the burn of the breeze that is the airing out of my odor

Feeling at last, a stink-free moment at the flames close in

As the heat makes my head expand

As the smoke fills my lungs

As the flames lap at my skin

As my Stink is released in the form of skin stink and hair stink and bone stink

As the crunching conflagration works its magic on my faulty DNA

Transforming my hunger into a pile of ashes

Consuming my animal instinct

Burning a hole into my hard-wired heart

Pushing my brain into the unprotected expanse of whiteness

A luminous brilliance of

Nothing
